Energy Production and Premorbid History in Schizophrenia

This report is one of a series on intermediary carbohydrate metabolism in schizophrenia. In previous communications the biochemical systems under investigation and the methods used have been discussed, and group differences between control, acute schizophrenic, and chronic schizophrenic male subjects have been reported.2,10 As part of the ongoing research program these initial results have been followed by an exploration in detail of the relationship between the biochemical measures and the clinical features of schizophrenia. Ratings of various aspects of the clinical picture have been made and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients (r's) computed between these ratings and the biochemical measures. Some of these results have already been reported; it has been noted that one important adenine phosphate in the system under investigation, fructose 1-6 diphosphate (F1-6P), is related to the primary symptoms, and another adenine phosphate, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), to measures of .chronicity.2,4 The
