The contents of this book were presented at a symposium on expression of the emotions in man at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in New York on Dec 29-30, 1960. The symposium was arranged by Dr. Knapp, and the entire content was edited by him. Both functions reveal the understanding, skill, and perceptivity of Doctor Knapp and his ability to get a group of scientists representing many disciplines together at one meeting.
The book is divided into three parts, entitled "One: Origins"; "Two: Levels: an Analysis"; and "Three: Toward a Synthesis." There are cogent introductory remarks by Dr. Knapp as well as a conclusion concerning a glance at the future by him also.
