The schizophrenic process presents simultaneously disaggregation, regression, and an attempt at reconstruction. The crucial problem of schizophrenia resides in the coexistence of these three orders of phenomena. Any conception of the disease, to be valid, must not only embrace these three categories of facts but also be able to explain the nature of their reciprocal relations. This, says the author, is far from being the case at present.
