This book is a masterpiece of publishing as well as writing. There is a very large author—and subject-index and an extensive bibliography. The author includes a bibliography of 143 of his own publications and 25 items published by his co-workers. There are 208 illustrations. The printing is beautiful, and the format is easily studied. The contents of the book are typical of the small Germanhandbooks—that is, encyclopedic in character. The author is an authority in his field and covers the cerebral function of infancy and childhood, including mental and emotional factors in growth and development. I know of no American textbook which is as complete and as easily accessible for references as this volume. The translators are to be highly congratulated. It can be of great value to child psychiatrists who are interested in the organic substratum of development and psychopathology.
