ABSTRACT

Mental Health in a Changing World is the first of three volumes that constitute the report of the international study group on mental health, 1961, convened by the World Federation for Mental

Health. The volume purports to be an account of major developments in the field of mental health transnationally since the publication of the report of the International Preparatory Commission for the Third International Congress on Mental Health, 1948.

The justification for three volumes instead of one is that each volume is alleged to address a special audience. Volume I is addressed to those whose main interest is in the promotion of mental health work.

The book is the result of the editors' attempt to boil down the tape recordings taken during a 12-day meeting plus some working papers into a summary of the proceedings. The book is divided into three sections. The first section (30 pages) is devoted
