Under the leadership of Robert D. Holt, some students and colleagues of the late David Rapaport decided to memorialize him by writing papers on psychoanalysis which reveal his influence. Of 30 invitations for original papers extended in 1961, this volume edited by Holt is the result. The chosen contributions are written by Benjamin B. Rubenstein, George S. Klein, Roy Schafer, Lester Luborsky, I. H. Paul, Merton M. Gill, Peter H. Wolff, and Robert D. Holt. Not only would a memorial to Rapaport naturally include only considerations of psychoanalysis, but the choice of authors and the titles of their papers guarantees an exclusive concern with theory. Holt's contributions are not only the instigation of the project and the choice of papers, but also as editor he has contributed copious footnotes to each paper.
Holt makes some interesting statements in the preface which I shall quote verbatim. ... a conviction
