An Empirical Analysis of the Offer Self-Image Questionnaire for Adolescents

The Offer Self-Image Questionnaire for Adolescents was constructed in 1961 through 1962. Its purpose has been to tap significant areas in the adjustment and the psychology of the teen-ager. During the past ten years, the questionnaire has been utilized by a number of investigators. Over 3,200 male and female, normal and disturbed adolescents in different geographic locations have taken the questionnaire. The adolescents come from urban and suburban, white lowermiddle, middle-middle, and upper-middle social classes. The total score on the questionnaire measures psychological well-being and adjustment. It has been demonstrated that the questionnaire is able to meaningfully differentiate between older and younger teen-agers and male and female adolescents. It is particularly good in distinguishing between disturbed and normal adolescents. Unknown at this writing is whether there are different profiles for different subgroups or disturbed or deviant adolescents.
