Compliance With Psychiatric Consultant's Recommendations-Reply

ABSTRACT

In the continued development of a Consultation Liaison Outcome Evaluation System (CLOES), we have now examined consultee responses to a number of consultant actions and identified variables critical to the respective outcomes. Concordance rates in these additional studies have been either lower or comparable to those we reported in response to consultants' recommendations for psychotropic medication. Kramer et al ask if consultants in other medical specialties elicit comparable consultee responses to their interventions. Preliminary results from companion studies of the cardiology consultation service in our hospital indicate that cardiology consultants elicit significantly greater overall concordance than their psychiatric counterparts in both recommendations for medication and diagnostic action.
