The House of Delegates of the American Medical Association based on a recommendation from the Council of Scientific Affairs has decided to advocate the reporting of medical laboratory data in SI units (International System of Units). The chief editors of the nine specialty AMA journals and the editorial board of JAMA have adopted this policy and will implement it in the following way:
1. All laboratory data published in this issue will have the traditional value given first with the SI value given in parentheses.
2. As of July 1, 1987, laboratory values will be reported in SI units followed by the traditional value in parentheses.
3. After July 1, 1988, only SI units will be used.—ED.
