The report was requested by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) task force to provide an independent assessment of the safety and efficacy of this compound. The 7 recommendations of this report suggest the need for more data, better integration of clinical trial and postmarketing surveillance data, increased attention to long-term clinical trials, and development of methods to assess long-term effects, in terms of efficacy, tolerance, and safety.
