Publications indexed in PubMed since 1980 with the term schizophrenia outweigh those with the term bipolar disorder by 8:1. This bias can be traced back to Emil Kraepelin's strong hypothesis that schizophrenia is a structural brain disorder, whereas bipolar disorder has no neural substrate.3
