Elbogen and Johnson make an important contribution to this field by studying prospectively more than 34 000 subjects. Yet, beyond some methodological issues (some of those fairly acknowledged by Elbogen and Johnson), such as the fact that (1) violence was assessed by self-report or (2) some analyses included patients with various psychiatric disorders, this article left us with a major concern.
