AB This book catches and sustains the reader's interest. As Dr. Dorfman states in the preface, "Perhaps no other theme serves to unite the activities and interest of so large a portion of an academic Community as Child Care." The relevance and current interest of topics and the manner in which each author presented various concepts in his own individual style is impressive.The emphasis in three fourths of the book on noninfectious problems (with the exception of the chapters on the underdeveloped countries of Asia, Latin America, and Africa) attests to changing medical care priorities, at least in the western Countries. The overview by Dr. Bain highlights the continuing disparity between available medical knowledge and its application to large population groups in terms of high infant mortality, continued existence of completely preventable diseases, eg, tetanus neonatorum in the Latin American countries and measles
