Visits were made to at least two university training programs in each of ten countries. This report discusses the historical development of medical education, psychiatric attitudes, and the delivery of mental health care. Then it focuses on specialty training in psychiatry. Similarities and differences within Europe are discussed and contrasted with postgraduate education in the United States. Problems are similar throughout the countries studied, but solutions are different.
